Indie Spotlight: Chicago Artist Vi City Drops A New Banger “OnGOD” | @IamViCity

Vi City Hits Us With A Hot New Single Titled “OnGOD” Featuring Harv

One of Chicago’s very own, Vi City, originally from the Wild Hundreds, is back on the music scene. Crafting a sound that captures the pain and hope of a youth striving to make a better way, combined with the ambition and skills to actually have made it out, the celebratory tones reign supreme on this wave of sound for the veteran rapper, songwriter and producer.

Vi’s introduction to the game came via working with Mathaus Ent. & Chilly of the 1st & 15th label in conjunction with Lupe Fiasco. Shortly after, he connected with DJ Skee to release a mixtape under Skee’s Skeeter’s TV label. His next stint came working with St. Louis’ own, Nelly, co – penning the hit Country N**** Fly (CNF).

In the midst of acquiring a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), Vi wrote and featured on “Some Ish” by Sir Michael Rocks ft. Twista off of his #1 debut solo album “Banco.” Along the way, he co-produced and wrote with the iconic producer duo Da Interz (Tuo Clark & Kos who’s worked on Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and Nas)..
Vi also has music placed on the hit show Empire.

Prior to deciding to drop new music of his own, Vi founded and branded Hundreds Entertainment, a music and film production firm of which he signed talented artist, Phoînix Keyz out of St. Louis, MO and has started crafting Phoînix’ debut project around each of the 6 instruments he plays.

Nino Khayyam – Bernice Burgo$ ft. Fivio Foreign

For Khayyam, it’s our individual decisions and actions that dictate our contributions to society, and it is the sum of these parts through which he hopes to share his art and inspire others. Never without a bottle of Fireball in the booth, Khayyam is making waves across New York for the inferno he brings to the studio.

Khayyam is a Brooklyn-based Hip-Hop artist whose music encapsulates the struggles and shortcomings of inner city life. With a convincingly trill vibe that is imbued with narratives of overcoming his troubled past, Khayyam steps up to the plate with a slew of hard-hitting Hip-Hop.

Khayyam is inspired by an eclectic range of music. Growing up, he idolized Bob Marley, Booba, and Bill Withers and Kurt Cobain to name just a few. He also cites his grandfather, a highly talented guitarist as a pivotal influence, along with anyone in music who put 100% of their soul into their art while simultaneously affecting culture itself.

Khayyam gravitated towards the booth in the late 90s, though it wasn’t until he wrote ‘F.W.N.’ that momentum truly began rolling. It was this single that would propel his career forward, with NYC clubs like WIP, Greenhouse, and Veranda all started showing strong support and giving Khayyam regular rotation.

Khayyam has a mixtape out now, ‘Pre-Season’, plus two singles titled ‘My Bag’ and ‘Pray For Me’, which serve as a prelude to his forthcoming untitled album. Prior to the release of Khayyam’s album, he will drop another mixtape, ‘Opening Day’. Further release details to follow soon.

His upcoming shows include a release party in NYC with DJ Spin King (November 12th 2019), and another with DJ Freedom (November 14th).

HBKbanz – Penny Hardaway

Westside Chicago Artist HBKbanz Drops New Banger “Penny Hardaway” For 2020

Hbkbanz is the name and taking over the music game is the plan. Straight out of K-town from the west side of Chicago, Banz was destined to do music. Hbkbanz has entertainment in his blood. Believe it or not Banz has been rapping since the age of 4 and at 18 he is better than ever.

Banz came in the game with hit single “Penny Hardaway” and currently at 150,000+ streams on spotify and the numbers are growing daily and his new single “Missin U” ft kdyoungcocky is now heating up as well. When Leonardo Cushmeer Jr was growing up he was in the studio constantly watching his father Leonardo Cushmeer Aka Chase Wyl Biz continuously make moves in the entertainment industry with hit singles “Wanna screw and “U aint heard of that” played on BET’s The Game, so its not surprising that Banz is very artistic musically.

Leonardo moved around a lot from Chicago to Atlanta then back to Chicago then moving to Northwest suburbs of Chicago to go to High School to see better results for his future, a decision his dad and mom Chenmila Davis agreed to. Now a high school graduate Banz is ready to take over. His anticipated Ep Half Broken Kookie will be dropping soon. Get Ready!!

Indie Artist Spotlight: Meet Tampa Rapper Paradox AON | @ParadoxAON

Paradox AON was born in Tampa, Florida. Decent up bringing; drugs were relevant but not seen. Great mother, she did her best given such horrible environments we landed in. I always had excelling talent in nearly everything I did, just had a lack of motivation to go with it. Quick feet, but no sight of where I was headed. There was no authoritative figure in the home and I did not know my father. I eventually met him when I was 19 and found that he is a musician as well. I guess you can say it’s genetics!

I have lost more than I have won. I have never seen honest success, until now. You can say that I have been in and out of jail, all my life. I used to define a good day based on whether it ended in handcuffs or not. I was pretty much locked up in group home after group home, from 13 to 18 years old. I aged out of the system when I turned 18 on December 11th, 2004. It took only 16 days for me to land myself in jail, on Dec 27th. I spent the first year of my adult life behind bars and almost completely missed my child hood. I was angry with no understanding of life so again, I hit the streets. I was a father at 19 but never became a dad until I was nearly 30. I wanted to love my daughter, but I didn’t know how.

I eventually found my way out of Florida and spent most of those years in Tennessee. I got lucky more than my fair share of times, until my lifestyle finally brought me to my knees. I was facing 30 to 55 years in prison in Tennessee. I had already taken the charges, so I couldn’t even fight the case – just hope for a good deal. I was sentenced to 16 years at 30 percent, suspended with treatment. You see, it was in that moment that I realized the only way I could change was through something greater than myself. Otherwise, I knew that I would fail again. I didn’t know when I would get my freedom back, but I knew when I did, I was going to live the rest of my life differently.

I was released to a halfway house in Memphis and by the time I was done with the program, I was selling drugs. It all started to fall apart again and then something made me walk in my P.O.’s office and ask for help. I got lucky again and got the help I needed, but it wasn’t without slipping one more time. About four months in, I was getting high again. By the grace of God, I got back on track and the next nine months would change my life forever.

I prayed that God would give me something to replace all the things I needed to get away from. To give me a new purpose in life because all that I knew was jail, drugs and drive-by’s. It was then that I found my voice in Hip-hop. Music literally saved my life. The amount of pain I have endured throughout my life gives me everything I need to write the lyrics that I spit. For the last two years I have continuously evolved as an artist, but equally importantly, as a man. I have found my purpose in this life: to use my struggles as a message through music.

My demise was my blessing- I guess it’s a paradox.

Aly Frank – Suiciety

Aly Frank shines light on impact social media has on suicide epidemic with new single ‘Suiciety’

NEW YORK, NY – According to the World Health Organization, nearly 800,000 people die by suicide in the world each year. That’s roughly one death every 40 seconds. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in the world for those aged 15 to 24 years.

It’s an epidemic and New York artist Aly Frank wants to do whatever she can to curb that negative trend and inspire others to make a difference. That’s why she created the new single “Suiciety.” A song that is simultaneously gripping and inspiring, “Suiciety” is both a wake-up call and a journey through what Western Culture has become, thanks to the impossible standards and overwhelming pressures created by social media. “Suiciety” by definition is a society that is slowly killing itself. Aly wants to turn that on its face, but she knows she can’t do it alone.

“This song is both a warning and a lesson,” she said. “I want this song to make a real difference and get the attention I think it has the potential to get. It’s been a topic in the back of my mind for a very long time but for some reason, I never thought to write about it. I always tend to write about my relationships. But when I heard this music, all of a sudden this thought of how social media has been taking over our minds just burst out of me through music. I just started writing and it was done in an hour.”

In the song, Aly brings to bear her lifelong training as a musician and her natural talent as a singer and lyricist to inspire others to consider the addictive qualities that can come with social media use. She doesn’t so much emphasize social media as evil as much as she encourages others to be responsible with how they use social media and to keep an eye out for the warning signs of depression and anxiety in others.

“I hope people understand that social media isn’t the devil, it should just be managed,” she said. “I think people are excited with every new feature that comes out every day and all the filters that come out and all the stories that are everywhere. Everybody gets so caught up in it and they don’t seem to understand the dark effect it can have, especially on young people who are still developing. This song calls attention to those things. And like all of my music, I want it to be known for being genuine. I want my music to be known as something that people can turn to when they’re going through something similar to what I’ve gone through. People have told me in the past that they listen to my music when they’re going through something tough, and that just means the world to me.”

“Suiciety” was released across all streaming platforms on Sept. 22. Aly has also created other singles during her professional career and said she has about three albums worth of music ready to be mixed and mastered. She said fans can be sure to see some of those singles released in the new few months.

Pee3Gee – No Kappa

PG3 calls out all the liars in the world
with new single ‘No Kappa’

SAVANNAH, GA – In some social circles of the world, there’s a belief that numbers have power. There’s a whole study behind the science of numerology. The number three, for instance, is said to be a power number, a symbol, if you will, of strength and integrity and even holiness.

Hip Hop artist PG3 doesn’t necessarily believe in numerology, but he does love the number three and all the symbolism that goes along with it. It has always been a lucky number for him and as such, it’s a symbol around which he wants to build his brand. He’s creating a movement of sorts, around the idea that when things are good and right and powerful, then “It’s 3.” It’s a saying he hopes catches on across the U.S. and which people will hear regularly throughout his music. His upcoming EP “It’s 3” will explore the philosophy behind the phrase and show the world his unique blend of sound and style. But before that EP releases later this year, he’s offering a single to the world.

“No Kappa” was dropped three weeks ago and has already been getting some major attention from fans along the East Coast. It’s an up-tempo track with hard-hitting lyrics that call out anyone who tries to put on a false face.

“It’s an upbeat track music that’s all about speaking on the real,” PG3 said. “It’s really for all the dudes out in the streets who can relate to what I’m saying. It’s basically saying that people shouldn’t be lying. If you say, ‘You’re no kappa’ you’re basically saying ‘You ain’t no lier.’”

PG3 has come a long way in the year-plus that he’s dedicated himself to a professional music career. What started as a hobby as a teenager of freestyling with friends has evolved into a one-of-a-kind talent that demands to be heard by a wider audience around the world. That individual talent was apparent from an early age as even when he was a child, he would wow the older kids in his neighborhood by how easily he could freestyle.

“People used to call me Minute Man because I’d go in hard for a minute and kill it,” he said. “I didn’t really take it seriously until I went over to a friend’s house and he had a studio there and we made a track called ‘Doin’ It’ and uploaded it to SoundCloud, and people all over the place started telling me how good I was and that I should keep going with it. I never really looked back from there.”

PG3 said he wants people to know him for what he says and for being able to make somebody move through his music. He makes the kind of music that makes people want to bob their heads and feel the groove, and when he combined quality lyrical content with that music he feels like he has a chance to “bring real rap back.”

Aj Angels – Check In

AJ Angels inspires others with new introspective EP ‘Iso’

DENVER, CO – Separated…  Alone … Isolated…

That’s how Denver artist AJ Angels has felt at times throughout his life and it’s in those moments that he always turns to music. The power of artistic expression has played out multiple times in his life in a myriad of ways, and it’s that power that he wants to capture and share with the world through his new EP “Iso.”

The project explores what it means to take a moment and check in with yourself. It’s about his mentality during those isolated moments and the motivating factors that happen in life to derail us from our dreams.

“It’s about asking yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing and why you’re chasing whatever it is that you’re chasing,” AJ said. “It’s about looking back and seeing how much progress you’ve made. For myself, I have the pedal down right now and a lot of times I feel like I have to drive this road alone. But that’s OK because I have to chase this dream and I’m focused on that.”

The idea for the project came about while he was checking into a hotel a few months back. He found himself almost in an out-of-body experience, looking down at his life in that moment and wondering what it was that led to him feeling so alone. So as he checked into a hotel, he also checked in on himself and began to reminisce on the progress of his life and the things around him. As he sat in his room, those introspective thoughts became words on a page which eventually turned into the debut single from the album, “Check In.”

“It’s kind of mellow and really echoes a lot of what I’m talking about on this project,” AJ said. “There’s an all-audio track to start the project, then you get ‘Check In’. But by track 3, things are more uplifting and fun and you’re enjoying life. I have some great choreography I want to put with some of those later songs on the EP, and we’re getting ready to film a video for ‘Check In’ later this month.”

The last three songs on the EP are “Witness,” “Little People” and “Arise” – all of which are inspirational and upbeat, with lyrics that demand attention. “Little People” in particular is one of the stronger tracks on the project as it pushes listeners to remember the “little people” in life and acknowledge that all of us are in some way little people, no matter how far we go in life or how much we succeed.

“And then I end with ‘Arise’ where I’m talking about my view on how I’m seeking something that makes me want to keep going,” AJ said. “I’m always seeking more and with this song, I’m touching on the fact that I’m single again and how I’m focused on my music. It’s about something I’m seeking and how it’s hard for me to put energy into something else. So I’m putting energy into what I think is working.”

Through all of his music, AJ’s unique sound and style reflects influence from the West African heritage that was instilled in him as a child growing up with immigrant parents. His taste in music and his sound has always had a foreign touch, and it’s that subtle blend that AJ thinks sets him apart from others in the industry today.

“At the end of the day, I want my music to be known for being real and inspiring,” he said. “That’s big for me. What I’m talking about a lot is finding self-progress in my music. There are a lot of people around me who don’t think I can have a version of success. But if there’s one thing to pick up from my music it’s that I’m being real and I’m showcasing how anyone can have a journey of success. Don’t worry if what you’re doing is right or wrong – if you love it, go all-in and see how things work out. If you’re 100 percent authentic and real, you can impact an unknown number of people’s lives. There are many times when I’ll never know how much my music impacts someone, but I can always count on being a positive impact on others if I’m being 100 percent real myself.”

LA artist Shiro melds genres to create Gospel Optional Urban Praise Music with her new hit single ‘Let’s Get It’

LA artist Shiro melds genres to create Gospel Optional Urban Praise Music with her new hit single ‘Let’s Get It’

LOS ANGELES, CA – An artist that is known from her work over the years with legends such as Brandy, A Lighter Shade of Brown, Dj Quik, Mc Lyte, and Tupac is stepping out from the background and bringing her talents to the forefront with her new hit single “Let’s Get It”.

The artist- Shiro, and her unique brand of music – called “Go Up Music” – is turning heads all throughout the music industry because of its one-of-a-kind sound and intriguing fusion of genres. One part Gospel, one part Urban, and one part of various other genres – from Latin to House and everything in between – Go Up Music is the new wave of Gospel Praise music that ultimately will redefine how people consider listening to religious music.

Shiro said, “The concept of Go Up Music hit us when we were working on new music to be released. We knew we had found a different type of flavor based on the tracks we were writing over – rap and trap and stuff like that. Some people say hard-core beats are beats that most Gospel singers don’t want to sing over because they think in using those beats it’s not Gospel. However, when people hear Go Up Music, they can decide how they feel about it, but we know that we’re praising God in the midst of the message and we’re doing it in a way that has never been done before. It’s totally different from the Gospel music most people are accustomed to. It’s off the Richter scale. You wouldn’t even realize it’s Gospel until you really start to listen to the lyrics. Our hope is to capture people by the music and at the same time have a positive message.”

With “Let’s Get It,” Shiro not only showcases her amazing vocals but also takes listeners on a controversial journey but she isn’t shying away from the conversation that she said needs to be had. “There is temptation everywhere, especially when you’re focused on getting to Heaven,” she said. “This song is based on encouraging people to take an avenue that most others wouldn’t. We’re speaking to people of the world who are seeking someone who can love them unconditionally. We want to show them that what they’re seeking can be found through a better life in Christ Jesus.”

“I want my music to be known for changing lives, being authentic, and original,” Shiro said, “It’s not preachy…it’s reality. I can talk from a pure place about some real-life experiences because I’ve been through them. Like at one point in my life, I felt broken and someone that was close to me convinced me to strip. I did it once and knew immediately that it was not the right path for me. But I want people to know that I’m just like them. I’m no better than you, but I have discovered a better way  — a way where there is someone who will accept you for who you are, give you strength when you are weak, and lets you know that you are not a mistake”.

The music video for “Let’s Get It” is dropping in early October across all streaming platforms

REME – Move

REME serves up a fresh new sound from the Southwest with “Dremeland”

HOUSTON, TX – Houston born and raised, Remus Young (known by his stage name REME) is raising his hometown’s profile with his own unique style and flavor. This versatile 21 year old Hip Hop and R&B artist has a sound unlike any other, and is poised to showcase his talent far beyond the Southwest.

Blessed with innate rhythm and beat, REME’s songwriting creatively builds from the base to the soul. Writing his own beats, lyrics and melodies, REME starts with creating a nice baseline beat and builds on that foundation. “I imagine the beat before I even write anything down. It may be a little bop. It may be a snap of the fingers. It may be something I put down,” REME said. “However it comes, it’s a sound that sticks with you.”

Over the past two years, he has been laying down tracks with the help of his producer and engineer, E Blaze. REME’s recent project titled “Dremeland” is a 9 track collection released under the name “REME the DREME.” One particular favorite song, “Playhouse,” has intense, sentimental lyrics paired with a theatrical beat. Across the entire collection, REME’s smooth flow weaves through his carefully crafted beats and haunting melodies.

Music has been a part of REME’s life since he was growing up. While his parents were divorcing, REME turned to music to escape the family drama. Later raised in a single parent home, REME was a bit of a loner who continued to sharpen his music and lyrical skills. Influenced by Tupac, Biggie and Snoop Dogg, REME’s music reflects life’s hardships, how he sees people and the world, and the challenges that others around him are going through.

Making his own music since fifth grade, REME seriously delved into music at the start of High School. Although Houston can be tough for an upcoming artist, REME has been encouraged to push forward by his faith and the support of his family, his friends and his fan base over the years.

REME feels the music scene in Houston is underrated, and he is helping to boost his home city to gain more attention for the local talent. “A whole lot of people are stuck on the perception that Houston is what it is. That’s not what it is,” he said. “It’s something way more. I don’t know if people can see that, but I’m gonna make people see that.”

With God being at the core of everything for REME, he believes that people should look after each other. “If someone can’t do it, try to help them or show them that there’s a way to do it. Try not to be self-centered and be open-minded towards yourself, your experience and other people.”

All of REME’s music is available on SoundCloud now, and he’s looking to drop a couple of singles, some music videos and an album in the very near future.

Evan Michael Green – Good Chick

Hot combo of master storytelling and mixed genres on EMG’s new EP “Growing Pains”

LOS ANGELES, CA – Evan Michael Green (also known as EMG) treats listeners to superb music and highly crafted stories at the same time. His new EP, “Growing Pains” is the loosely autobiographical personal journey of a man trying to evolve into a better musician, a better artist and a better person. When this east coast songwriter headed out to LA two and a half years ago, he wanted to document his relocation adventures as they were happening.

On “Growing Pains,” Evan delivers a mix of three genres he loves most: R&B, Pop and Hip Hop. Every song has a certain feel to it which puts you in that world for a short time, then immediately takes you out on the next track. Evan tries not to stay in any one genre for too long which expertly drives the flow of music and story.

As a storyteller, Evan developed a character based upon himself to take us through some challenges of settling in a new place. “New Identity,” actually released a year ago, was incorporated into this project because it works so well as an introduction to the narrative. The story progresses with troublesome relationships in “Bad Girls,” and leads to the realization that relationship problems have been brought on by himself.

Guys often chase after what they’ve been warned against. Evan said “I feel like we try and address our problems and sometimes we end up right back where we started.” After discovering that pursuing “Bad Girls” doesn’t give him what he really wants, the solution comes out in the track, “Good Chick,” where he paints an image of the woman he truly desires.

A perfect extension of his storytelling, Evan’s YouTube channel has millions of views. His tremendous success comes from making highly creative videos with convincing characters (which Evan enjoys playing). His powerful performance as a manipulative smooth talker in “Nice Voice,” for example, got the reaction he was aiming for. He always wanted to be a visual artist and feels that video gives a song new life. More quality videos followed for the new EP including “Bad Girls” and “Good Chick,” which picks up where the previous video left off.

Evan grew up in a household surrounded by creativity and music which naturally led him to become a creative teen and expand his ideas in adulthood. After attending Berklee College of Music for Music Business and Marketing, Evan later made the decision to live in his car for six months while saving to relocate to LA to pursue his music career. “It was a roll of the dice but it paid off for me,” he said.

His other passion of building people and companies led him to start his independently operated label and production company, Ten Sixty Seven. While maintaining creative control of all aspects of his music and having the freedom to be self-sufficient are advantages to running the company, the time involved and large learning curve meant that he was only able to put out two songs in 2018.

With processes now in place, Evan has time to do more of what he loves. He took a year and a half to train his voice for his crowning achievement, a track first written in 2017 called “No Ceiling.” Evan has learned to master and disguise his voice which is evident on “Growing Pains.” He changes his voice on nearly every song depending on the desired vibe. Dedication and a lot of hard work have gone into creating the new EP, and it shows. “Definitely grinding on this EP for a good amount of time,” said Evan, “just to get everything right!”

A melange of genres flows into Malik Mustafa’s latest single “Intermission”

A melange of genres flows into Malik Mustafa’s latest singles

LITTLE ROCK, AR – “Intermission,” the new single from Malik Mustafa, is a blend of Hip Hop and Pop. Malik is celebrating his first record contract – a publishing and distribution agreement with a New York label. “Intermission” will be the first single under the new deal. Described by Malik as “a love song – one for the female fans,” the artist expects this single to drop around July 19th.

After recording and completing the first mix himself, Malik uses different producers to take his tracks across the finish line. For “Intermission,” he turned to a producer in Europe for a different feel than what is found in the US. For his lyrics, Malik draws inspiration from something he is going through at the time. “Intermission” talks about not allowing himself to be conned by a certain type of girl who believes that she can keep a guy just because she’s pretty, wears makeup and is into fashion.

Similarly, with his previous single “Energy,” Malik’s real life experiences provide for thought provoking lyrics. In a must-hear and poignant verse, he raps about falling out with his grandmother, getting kicked out of her house, and sleeping in his car for two months.

Mixed and mastered by Hi-Light in St. Kitts, “Energy” affirms that Malik cannot surround himself with negative energy and won’t be brought down by it. “Energy,” released late last year and accompanied by a video, created an initial buzz for an upcoming EP which will contain both tracks.

Not to be confined to any one specific genre, Malik’s musical style has been influenced by his exposure to several different cultures, styles and living conditions. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and raised in Atlanta, he also spent five years during and after high school in St. Kitts. The fast pace and hip hop lifestyle of the ATL contributed to his creativity, but the pain in his music stems from Little Rock. “If you’re not strong mentally, it could break you. But, if you are strong mentally, it could build you and you could use it like I do and put it into a creative way, like my music,” affirmed Malik.

Although he considers all three places home, St. Kitts is where Malik’s music career really kicked off. “Listening to their music – the Caribbean / Afrobeat type style,” Malik said, “that just added to my music, so I didn’t just have to write about the pain or the struggle. I could make dance records … stuff that’s more up-tempo that people could dance to and enjoy at a party.”

At the age of 12, Malik was loving the enthusiastic feedback and attention and he knew he was meant for a music career after his very first performance at a school talent show. He wasn’t supposed to perform at all because he was in trouble at school. But a sympathetic teacher allowed him and his friends to do their thing. Malik often wonders if he would be involved in music today if that teacher had not allowed them on stage.

Malik’s first big performance was at the St. Kitts Music Festival in 2016. The annual event featured the likes of 50 Cent, Damian Marley, Dexta Daps and Tarrus Riley, and has hosted performances by Chris Brown, Ella Mai, French Montana, Trey Songz, Jason Derulo and more over the years. To be a part of the festival’s history was a huge accomplishment for Malik.

Malik Mustafa is a deep thinking and compassionate artist. Given a choice among a host of quick fixes such as unlimited money, super strength and choosing a body type, the ability Malik would choose is the power to heal others, either mentally or physically, because he knows what it is like when someone is in pain. “The world would be such a better place if people were more happy!”

TheDropout Spectrum taps into depths of the cosmos with diverse new sound

 TheDropout Spectrum taps into
depths of the cosmos with diverse new sound

DALLAS, TX – To truly get a feel for how deeply moving the music from new Dallas-based artist TheDropout Spectrum is, you have to look deep into the cosmos. His sound and style is otherworldly. As his name indicates, it’s a sound that explores a spectrum of genres and influences in ways that make the word “diverse” seem inconsequential. His crazy flows and deep poetry are catching the attention of new fans all over the world, and his new album “ZenStellar” is set to launch him into the stratosphere of success.

Born in Benin West Africa, Brice Danvide, now best known for his stage name TheDropout Spectrum, moved with his family to Texas when he was a child. He started his music journey in 2008 with the release of the single called “I’m On.” The success he found with that single was enough to propel him into making music a full time career, and he’s been pursuing that dream ever since.

“ZenStellar” is an album that celebrates the diversity that he embraces through his music. His songs talk about current problems in the world or day-to-day issues that people go through. In particular, he said the art of this album is associated with “the universe and the cosmos, particularly the Libra constellation.”

“If you can locate Zubeneschamali, it’s the brightest star in that constellation,” he said. “That’s what I want this album to represent – shining bright. Most of the album has a pretty upbeat vibe – you will move without realizing that you’re moving. It will also show people how I think and the way I choose my ideas and how I’m able to shift gears from slow pace to faster pace. I have a wide diversity of flows.”

Though the album isn’t set to be released until the end of the year, the debut single from the project will be available on all digital streaming platforms on July 13. It’s called “Take Off” and it’s an upbeat song that TheDropout  Spectrum said he’s sure will end up being motivational for a lot of people.

“It’s about anything you do in life that can propel you into a good mindset or success,” he said. “Anything you envision and take steps forward to realize and make it happen. When you wake up in the morning, you can take off. When you go to work, you take off. It’s a term that you can use for anything that can allow someone to propel themselves from the initial mindset that they had into something higher. Really, I want to show them that they can do whatever they put their minds to in life.”

Ultimately, TheDropout Spectrum said he hopes his music will explore and reflect “all the spectrum colors of light” in a way that is “so deep that you can’t track what’s going on. You’ll just know that it’s amazing.”

captures new sound of ‘hip pop’

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, MD – Brandon McCrae is the total package. This hip hop artist from Prince George’s County in Maryland writes, produces, mixes and masters all of his own music. And he has developed such a one-of-a-kind sound that people all along the East Coast have been sitting up and paying attention to.

His newest single, “Nightmares and Dreams,” is a mixture of hip hop and pop underneath an upbeat, fast-tempo groove that invites listeners into a good time. Self-described as a “catchy vibe,” the single is something that came from his attempt to combine multiple genres into one hard-hitting song that would put people in a groove and give them a good time.

McCrae has been producing since he was in high school. He also started battle rapping in high school, and by college had developed a unique sound to the point where he started selling his beats. He made a name for himself, first at North Carolina Central University and then at Morgan State University. That name has continued to grow to more fans all along the East Coast as he has continued to create hit after hit.

“When I decided to become a Do-It-Yourself artist, I needed to learn how to mix, so I left Morgan State University and went to Full Sail University and joined the recording arts programs,” he said. “Since then, I have built a catalog which I am ready to release. My production and my flow set me apart from anybody else out there. My production is elaborate and intricate. I definitely have my own style, and I like to combine different styles so you can get the best of every world. I want to be known for being able to do it all – mixing, producing, writing. A lot of music sounds the same today and I want people to be able to distinctively tell my music apart because of the quality.”

McCrae not only writes, produces and mixes all of his music, but he also plays multiple instruments. He plays the drums, violin, piano, guitar, and a variety of other instruments whenever the mood strikes. He’s inspired by stories from life – whether his own stories or those of people who come in and out of his life. Sometimes his lyrics talk about the up and downs of life but more often than not, his music has a message paired with “just good music.” He aspires to leave an impact on the world in ways similar to his inspirations – Kanye West, Chain Smokers, Lost Kings and Chance the Rapper.

In addition to “Nightmares and Dreams” which dropped July 12, McCrae is working on an EP that he plans to release later this fall.

Darrell Kelley soars above the crowd with his latest single, “I’m So High”

Darrell Kelley soars above the crowd with his latest single, “I’m So High”

ATLANTA, GA – As a productive pastor, author, entrepreneur and singer/songwriter, Darrell Kelley is, understandably, a master of multitasking. Kelley has released a new single called “I’m So High.” In his latest offering, the versatile Kelley serves up a smoking R&B/Soul track with a super chill vibe which could easily serve as the new anthem for the growing movement of marijuana acceptance.

Kelley wrote “I’m So High” in support of the individual’s right to use marijuana. For Kelley, it doesn’t seem fair, especially on job seekers and college students traveling across state lines, that marijuana use is legal in some states while considered a criminal offense in others. If smoking and medical use are legal in some states, why not legalize in the entire country, Kelley wonders. “As long as you understand that you have something to do when you’re done enjoying yourself, it’s OK to have fun. But you gotta know when the fun is over with so you can take care of your personal business,” Kelly said. “If you don’t focus on business, then you’re not gonna succeed.”

Kelley knows about business – the new song was introduced at Kelley’s soul food restaurant, Soul Delicious, in Morrow, GA. Changing things up from his previous Gospel sound, Kelley wanted to do R&B for his latest work because “R&B is about music. It’s about love and having fun. People misconstrue what fun, love and music are all about. It doesn’t matter if it’s Gospel, Jazz, Rock, R&B, Hip Hop … what matters is if it’s clean and very nice, and you can relate to the music. But more importantly, relate to the artist.”

The release of “I’m So High” is accompanied by a music video which was shot in California after Kelley received a recommendation for Venice Beach. He flew out to the coast and shot the video over the weekend. Known as an Atlanta area Pastor, Kelley mentioned some confusion over one scene in the video. He is smoking an airplane because he is high, he affirmed, and not smoking a cross, as some have mistaken. God is first in his life and is everything to Darrell Kelley.

In his role as a religious leader, Kelley started a new religion in 2017 called UWGEAM (an acronym for God of the Universe, God of the World, God of all Gods, God of Everything, and God of Anything including Me). Kelley published and wrote “The Book of UWGEAM” which explains the principles of this religion. In addition to his work as a Pastor, Kelley has been a restaurant owner since 2013 when he opened Soul Delicious. He later opened Soul Delicious Latino in Miami, FL.

A prolific creator, Darrell Kelley has enjoyed chart successes and wide recognition. In addition to several singles, Kelley has released a number of albums and an EP. His debut R&B/Gospel EP, titled “Storm is Coming,” was released in 2018. In Early 2019, Kelley dropped his first full length album, “Unity.”  Soon afterwards, he followed up with the album “Here Ends the Lesson” which seemed to signal a change of gears for the artist. His newest album, “Get Wild,” features “I’m So High” and a song called “Moonlight,” a haunting, melodic number which will likely be Kelley’s next single. He has no shortage of original material to draw from for the live tour he is putting together for the UK for early 2020.

Kelley’s biggest musical influence is Aretha Franklin, and he aspires to create the type of music which brings love to all. “I like music because it connects with people,” said Kelley. “At the end of the day, no matter how a person feels, music will always uplift you – if you’re depressed or lonely, if you’re sad or if you had a bad day at work. I love music because it makes you get away from what is happening around you. It will just uplift you and relax your mind.”

Darrell Kelley is a deeply appreciative man. He is grateful for life itself and for his fans who have supported him over the years. He enthusiastically expresses appreciation for his family, including Kevin, Gabby, Fred, Curtis, Laura, Dee Dee and others. Overall, he deeply appreciates the love.

Scorching new single “Came For” by AYO^ heats up the summer

Scorching new single “Came For” by AYO^ heats up the summer

WASHINGTON DC – With his brand new single, AYO^ treats listeners to music that is perfect for the sizzling season. “Came For” is a sexy, chill dancehall jam, flavored with Caribbean and R&B tones characterized by a tropical feel and a distinctive summer vibe. Although the song was recorded at The Kitchen DMV in Burtonsville, Maryland last fall, AYO^ held off releasing the single until the July 4th holiday. He felt confident that it was the best time to drop “Came For” because of its unmistakable summer sound.

Drawing on feelings that he has experienced himself, AYO^ sings about the moment you walk into a function – you see the girl and the two of you automatically click. There’s a feeling that she was waiting just for you, emphasized by the line “I’m who you came here for.” It seems like the moment was just waiting to happen.

He started making beats himself two years ago. Listening to popular songs, he knew he could also write popular music. AYO^ said “I knew how to make the beats, so why not just put words to it?” AYO^ describes the songwriting process for “Came For” as similar to experiences with most of his music. Song ideas suddenly fly into his head from out of nowhere after hearing the perfect instrumental while fishing for beats. Then, he goes straight into the studio the very next day – he hates to sit on ideas.

AYO^ is making music because he loves seeing people happy, which comes as little surprise when you hear what he’s bringing. He strives to put smiles on people’s faces when they hear his music. He put smiles on faces recently when the crowd went crazy during his performance at a packed basement release party in Maryland.

“Came For” is his first Dancehall / Caribbean style piece. Whether composing R&B/Hip Hop music or delivering Dancehall creations, AYO^ has many different genres he likes to touch on. His varied taste stems from his upbringing. Born in the US and of Nigerian descent, AYO^ would hear Nigerian and American music almost simultaneously every day while growing up. Driving AYO^ to school, his mother would play popular Nigerian music. “Then she would put on Aretha Franklin and Barry White. She had very diverse taste. Those are part of some of my sweetest memories of music – me just vibing to music and enjoying it.”

Look out for more joy and more music from this Prince of DC. AYO^ is always in the studio and has plans to bring out a new EP, featuring more R&B / Dancehall / Reggae fusion in the fall. As AYO^ puts it: “When the beat drops, you just get into it. You have no choice!”

Preston Wayne has no problem blending smooth rap with a tight melody in his new single “Problem”

Preston Wayne has no problem blending smooth rap with a tight melody in his new single “Problem”

LOS ANGELES, CA – Rap artist Preston Wayne’s new single, “Problem” is a super party record with a ton of energy. Released in late June, “Problem” is a song that anyone can relate to. “We all feel like at some point we’re a problem,” said Wayne. Written in his living room, Wayne describes the song as “Very crazy. Something you want to play at night on your way out to hit the town.”

Rising from his own problems (sleeping on the floor in a house full of college students and eating ramen noodles every day), Preston recently performed at the EmergeLV Festival in Las Vegas. That’s one thing he loves about the music business – entertaining. For Wayne, it feels “overwhelming, in a good way. You feel accomplished when people like your stuff. When I can make a thousand or five thousand people feel the same and like and enjoy something, it feels really good … like I ran a 5K and took first place. It also makes you want to get even better, to do the same to a million other people.”

Two years ago, Wayne left a thriving rap music scene in Billings, Montana where he and his crew had been going strong for years. Although the city is exploding with new talent and is a stop for touring rap artists, Wayne was ready to move forward and relocated to Los Angeles to take his career to the next level. It was a big change. Coming from Billings where people wave to each other, Wayne had never seen highways with more than two lanes before moving out to the coast. These days, when he needs rejuvenation, he can at least go to the beach!

Derryck “Big Tank” Thornton of One Tyme Entertainment (Fabolous, Zane, Queen Latifah, Tech N9ne, Christina Aguilera & Pussycat Dolls) discovered Preston through a mutual connection of Preston’s brother, Austin. Tank heard something in Preston and requested a meeting. After signing Preston, Tank reached out to his longtime friend – one of the most prolific A&R minds in the game and former president of Aftermath, Mike Lynn (Eminem, 50 Cent, Game, Eve, Lukas Graham, Anderson .Paak & Bruno Mars) – to partner on Preston Wayne. Mike Lynn, together with his business partner and branding maven, Dano Leman founded Reven8te which is an imprint distributed by INgrooves/UMG and they immediately believed in Preston Wayne and offered to team up with Big Tank’s One Tyme Entertainment. Preston’s team is strong and he’s come out swinging.

As a brand new artist who is just getting started, the extreme stuff hasn’t happened yet. But there’s a storm coming. Preston has thousands of hot songs stacked up. Currently putting together an album, he feels that singles are important and function as “One-song albums.” “When I’ve looked at a lot of albums, they always do their high numbers on the first three tracks. Why not drop a bunch of one-song albums, technically, so you know that they’re listening? Dropping singles is the most effective way of getting your music heard all the way through.”

You will definitely want to listen all the way through and listen carefully for hidden references to his home state. Preston says “I’m always gonna leave hints about Montana!”

Louisville rapper Lul Soufside releases new single “Rumorz”

Louisville rapper Lul Soufside releases new single “Rumorz”

LOUISVILLE, KY – Rap artist, Lul Soufside, has released his new single, “Rumorz.” The lyrically complex track features an unusual vocal mix with layered effects over a steady, chill groove. “Rumorz” is the first recorded piece of a long term venture. This project which he calls 3$ummerz, is a collection of unreleased songs which have been crafted and perfected over the past three summers. While he continues to work on other tracks, he’s making plans to put it all together into an album.

Known in the local Louisville music scene, Lul Soufside (aka Twjuan Sellers, Jr.) is unique in the market and has his own way of bringing the sounds. “I come on tracks different than a lot of people in the industry,” says Lul Soufside. “Just the way I come on the track, the way I post a beat is different from a lot of people.” He feels that over the years, his music style has evolved since he first began writing. The music he’s making now is more lyrical with an expanded sound and generally has more craft. He’s been performing for groups locally, but is working hard towards gaining more worldwide exposure.

Encouraged to pursue his music by friends and family for over six years, Sellers has had to overcome hardship and tragedy. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, he grew up on the Southside of Louisville in the tough neighborhood of the Iroquois projects. He has endured the loss of family – three cousins were murdered and another cousin died in a car accident. While alive, these family members pushed him hard and told him that he would escape the projects someday. He says “every song I make is for my lost ones.”
